mph Top Ten Spins of the Year: Number 8
The top ten list currently in the Dec/Jan issue of the magazine continues.
#8. Honda Civic Si
The new Honda Civic Si is like the
perfect college girlfriend. You know you'll move on
eventually to something bigger and more
expensive, but for now, everything you want or
need is right here, in one tight, smart, respectable,
easy-on-the-eyes package.
Our first encounter
was so memorable that we've thought about
reconnecting with it online at work or some other
time when the wife's not around. Because the new
Si takes us back to the good old days, when high-revving,
variable-valve-timed engines were new,
limited-slip differentials were letting front-wheel-drive cars get quick, and Japanese small car
quality was a
revelation.
In the 2006
Si, it's all fresh again:
197 horsepower
actually feels like 197
horsepower—the car
puts its power down as
fast as a rear-driver,
thanks to the LSD. It's
so cheap ($19,750) and
frugal (31 mpg) that it
makes you as smart as
Stephen Hawking, only,
you know, without the
spooky voice. And the
interior on this car is
nicer than most Tokyo
apartments. But the
best part, undoubtedly,
is that it won't demand
a new Prada bag every
damn season.
#9. Range Rover Sport
#10. Dodge Ram SRT-10 Quad-Cab
